A craving is not usually a random event. Much of the time it is stress chemistry arriving on schedule. When you feel pressured, rushed, or threatened, your body runs a hormone cascade that ends in cortisol, and cortisol talks directly to the same brain circuits that a substance hijacks. That is why a hard afternoon can flip into a sudden, physical pull toward a cigarette, a vape, or a drink, even weeks after your last one. The HPA axis in plain terms
